Four Winds recognizes the challenges facing schools, childcare centers, parents, and community members as a result of the pandemic. And we know that nature can be both restorative and calming for children — a very welcome breath of fresh air. As a community-based natural science organization, we support nature-based education in and out of schools, working with classroom teachers, early childhood professionals and more than 1400 volunteers across New England. Our programs may look different in the coming year, but we will be out teaching community workshops, providing teachers with resources for students’ at-home learning, and leading professional development circles.
We have years of experience teaching children and adults outside. And now our workshops will reflect the CDC’s COVID-19 public health guidance as we support parents/volunteers and teachers leading natural science lessons for schoolchildren. We want everyone to be safe and happy AND outside learning about nearby nature. And we want to be doing this with you!
With best wishes from all of us at Four Winds,
Emily, Chris, Deb, Susan, Becky, Mike, Elly, Joanne, Hilary, Lisa
We encourage our staff and volunteers to do our part to keep the community healthy and safe:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Practice physical distancing and wear a mask when out in public.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Stay home when you are sick, and seek medical care as needed.
